In an unexpected move, Telangana Jagruthi president and former MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha announced plans for a new political party in the state, set to launch in May. The party, bearing the name ‘Telangana’ and aiming for social justice (Samajika Telangana), will reportedly contest the Assembly elections and challenge both the ruling Congress and BRS parties, as well as the BJP.
Speaking informally with reporters, Kavitha expressed confidence that her party would capture power in the state. She revealed her intention to contest from Siddipet segment as her first preference and Bodhan as a secondary choice for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Claiming that her party would emerge as the main opposition in the state once established, Kavitha made assertive remarks about the BJP’s imminent disappearance from Telangana politics. She also pointed out that her party intends to question and challenge both the Congress, BRS, and BJP on their policies deemed detrimental to the people.
Kavitha further revealed that her new political party will contest in the upcoming MPTC, ZPTC, and GHMC elections. She stated an intention of forming an electoral alliance with another party for the ZPTC and MPTC elections, while also claiming that if given an election symbol, they would contest the GHMC elections on their own symbol.
In addressing concerns regarding YS Sharmila’s merger of her YSR Telangana Party with the Congress, Kavitha expressed a viewpoint that Sharmila should not be labeled as a failed leader but rather considered as the state president of a national party. She questioned the lack of attention given to male leaders who have failed after launching political parties, as compared to the focus on Sharmila’s actions.
