Deccan Alert | Andhra Pradesh to Become Home of India's Largest Integrated Lithium-Ion Battery Gigafactory

In a move aimed at bolstering the clean energy sector and domestic manufacturing, Waaree Energies has announced plans to establish India’s largest integrated lithium-ion battery gigafactory in Andhra Pradesh. The project, set to be located at Rambilli in Anakapalli district, will involve an investment of ₹8,175 crore and is expected to generate approximately 3,000 direct jobs.

The greenfield facility, scheduled for construction in the near future, will have a capacity of 16 GWh and cover the entire battery value chain, from cell manufacturing to battery packs and large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This comprehensive approach positions Waaree Energies’ gigafactory as a significant player in India’s clean energy landscape.

The project has received in-principle approval from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. AP Minister for IT, Nara Lokesh, expressed his enthusiasm about the venture, stating that this project marks a significant milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s clean-energy journey. He further emphasized that Waaree’s gigafactory will be India’s largest battery manufacturing plant and will play a crucial role in reducing import dependence while strengthening domestic manufacturing in a strategic sector.

With this initiative, Andhra Pradesh continues to assert its commitment to sustainable energy solutions and industrial growth, positioning itself as an attractive destination for clean technology investments.
