In a significant shift in political dynamics, the Indian National Congress has claimed victory in the by-election for the Jubilee Hills constituency, held on November 15, 2025. The seat, previously held by Maganti Gopinath of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), was won comfortably by Congress candidate V Naveen Yadav, who beat his closest rival, Maganti Sunitha of the BRS, by a margin of 24,729 votes.

The victory marks a strategic win for the Congress, as it comes ahead of the forthcoming civic body elections scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. This result indicates an expansion of the party’s base within Greater Hyderabad, potentially strengthening its position in the upcoming local elections.

The win is also expected to boost the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, whose party, Congress, has managed to claim this seat from the main Opposition BRS. The by-election was prompted due to the demise of the incumbent MLA, Maganti Gopinath, earlier this year.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been making significant strides in various parts of the country, remains a moderate presence in Hyderabad politics.

As political parties gear up for the civic body elections next year, the focus will be on consolidating their base and gaining new ground. The Congress’ win in Jubilee Hills suggests that they are making headway in this regard, with Hyderabad set to become a key battleground in the first quarter of 2026.
