Hyderabad, August 13: The surprise inspection by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy appears to have spurred the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into action. Reports coming in say that within 48 hours of the inspection, GHMC officials have decided to initiate steps to address the issue.
Sources revealed that the civic body will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for laying a Storm Water Drain (SWD) network to address clear water stagnation during heavy rains in nearby colonies of the major nala running from Krishnakanth Park, Madhura Nagar, and other areas such as Maitrivanam, Aditya Trade Centre, and Satyam Theatre in Ameerpet.
In response to the Chief Minister’s concerns about waterlogging during monsoons, GHMC plans to complete a survey of drainage systems and flood-prone areas, assessment of existing conditions, and analysis of deficiencies from these areas by August 14. The DPR is expected to outline the scope, cost, timeline, and potential impact of the SWD network project.
The GHMC’s swift response comes amidst growing public concern over inadequate drainage systems and flooding during heavy rains. With monsoon season fast approaching, the initiative by the civic body has been hailed as a positive step towards addressing longstanding issues related to urban infrastructure.
As the situation develops, residents of these affected areas are hopeful that the DPR will lead to concrete action and ensure better drainage facilities in their neighborhoods. The GHMC’s commitment to improving the city’s storm water management system remains to be seen, but this move is a promising start towards addressing the challenges posed by Hyderabad’s monsoon rains.
