In a statement released on Friday, the working president of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (BRS), KT Rama Rao, accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of maintaining a “conspiratorial silence” over the spate of defections of BRS legislators to the Congress.
Rama Rao pointed out that while Gandhi frequently raises the issue of “vote chori” (election fraud) in national politics, he has not spoken against the “brazen MLA chori” (legislator defection) in Telangana. The BRS leader’s statement comes amidst a series of defections from the BRS to the Congress.
Rama Rao further mentioned that several of the defected MLAs were seen with Congress scarves and posed for photographs with Gandhi, images which have been circulated on social media by Congress leaders.
The allegations made by KT Rama Rao are significant as they come at a time when both the BRS and the Congress are vying for power in the state. The BRS is currently in power in Telangana, while the Congress is the main opposition party.
The Congress has not yet responded to the allegations made by KT Rama Rao. However, it is expected that this issue will be a topic of discussion in the coming days as the political climate in Telangana continues to heat up.
