Deccan Alert | Karnataka BJP’s X Handle Booked for Defamatory Post on Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar

In a significant development, the Karnataka police have registered a case against the Karnataka BJP X handle for a controversial social media post that allegedly defamed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday.

The post referred to them and other ministers as ‘scam lords’ and accused them of involvement in ‘looting’ the state.

The move comes amidst growing tensions between the ruling Congress coalition and the opposition BJP in Karnataka. The case was filed under Section 500 (Defamation) and 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The police are investigating the matter to establish the identity of the individuals responsible for publishing the defamatory post. The BJP X handle has not yet issued a public response regarding the case.

This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred. In the past, several political leaders have been accused of using social media platforms to spread misinformation and defame their opponents. However, this marks a significant escalation as it involves a direct attack on the state’s top leadership.
