In a heated exchange on social media, entrepreneur Mohan Das Pai and Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy clashed over the efficiency of Bengaluru’s public transport system and the role of private players.
The debate erupted after Pai criticized the state government’s approach to public transport, claiming it was inefficient and blaming the minister’s ideology for hindering progress.
Pai advocated for allowing private bus operators, suggesting they could improve services and urged the government to consider opening the sector to private participation.
In response, Reddy rejected Pai’s criticism and challenged him to a face-to-face discussion on the issue. The minister suggested that the Managing Director of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) would be capable of addressing Pai’s concerns.
Reddy accused Pai of viewing public transport solely from a financial perspective, while the government saw it as a public service intended to benefit citizens. The minister defended the state’s stance, stating that the government aimed to serve the needs of the 1.5 crore citizens of Bengaluru.
