Deccan Alert | Mass Food Poisoning Incidents Reported Across Three Telangana Districts

In a series of unfortunate events, more than 100 students have fallen ill due to suspected food poisoning across three districts in Telangana over the past two days. The affected schools and hostels are located in Sangareddy district, Khammam district, and Wanaparthy district.

In Sangareddy district, 45 students from a government primary school in Venkatapur village complained of a foul smell from one of the curries served during mid-day meals on Thursday, January 29. Their complaints were reportedly ignored, and some students later developed vomiting and stomach pain. A total of 23 students were shifted to the Narayankhed Government Hospital, where doctors stated that most are stable but under observation. The school supervisor has been issued a warning, and instructions have been given for the repainting of the school, with cylinders provided if necessary.

On Friday, January 30, another incident occurred at the Bodiyathanda Government Primary School in Konijerla mandal of Khammam district, where 38 students were rushed to hospital due to suspected food poisoning. The cause of the illness remains unclear, but symptoms included vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Around 10 students remain critical at present, while others are receiving medical treatment.

Later in the night on Friday, a third incident took place at the BC Intermediate Girls Hostel in Kothakota of Wanaparthy district. Thirty-two students experienced stomach pain and vomiting after dinner. The students were given first aid by the hostel warden and later transferred to the district hospital via an 108 ambulance. It was reported that they had consumed bottle gourd curry, tomato rasam, and egg.

Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the root cause of these incidents and prevent similar occurrences in the future. The District Medical and Health Officer is overseeing the situation.
