In a significant development, senior Maoist leader Chelluru Narayana Rao has surrendered to the Andhra Pradesh Police in Vijayawada. Narayana Rao, a key member of the AOB State Committee and also a part of the State Military Commission, held several crucial roles in the banned People’s War group. He was also the Commander of the 3rd Company of the Central Regional Committee (CRC), known by the alias Somanna.

Following the deaths of top Maoists Gazarla Ravi and Aruna in separate encounters in Alluri and Sitarama Raju districts, Narayana Rao assumed leadership. He hails from Bathupuram village in Vajrapu Kothur mandal, Srikakulam district.

During the surrender, Narayana Rao was accompanied by several other Maoists from the AOB Special Zonal, Area, and Divisional Committees. Weapons were reportedly handed over during the surrender ceremony.

This event marks a significant blow to the banned Maoist group in the region as Narayana Rao held key positions within their ranks. The exact circumstances surrounding his decision to surrender are yet to be disclosed.
