In a bid to secure a fairer distribution of taxes, Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah has initiated the ‘Justice for Karnataka – Fair Share, Strong Federalism’ campaign. The campaign, launched on January 31st, 2026, aims to emphasize key demands, particularly the restoration of the tax share that was reduced from 4.71% to 3.64%.
The reduction in Karnataka’s tax share has been a contentious issue for some time now, and Siddaramaiah is seeking to address it via this campaign. The nine posters released as part of the campaign highlight various aspects of the demand for a fairer distribution of taxes.
As per the campaign, the 16th Finance Commission is being urged to restore Karnataka’s tax share to its previous level of 4.71%. This move is expected to provide a more equitable distribution of resources across different states in the country.
