In a significant event, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated the newly reconstructed shrine of the revered tribal goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma in Medaram, Mulugu district on Monday. The inauguration took place ahead of the forthcoming ‘Maha Jathara’, a four-day tribal festival scheduled to commence from January 28.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by his family members and cabinet colleagues as he offered prayers at the renovated shrine this morning. The state government undertook a substantial project, investing Rs 101 crores, for the reconstruction of the sacred altar (gaddelu) that houses the deities Sammakka, Saralamma, Govindaraju, and Pagididda Raju.
In addition to government personnel, approximately 2,000 youth from the tribal community have been appointed as volunteers for the upcoming ‘Maha Jathara’. The festival, celebrated at Medaram, is a significant cultural event that draws thousands of devotees and tourists each year.
The reconstruction of the shrine and preparations for the Maha Jathara are expected to boost tourism in the region, offering an opportunity for local businesses to thrive during the festive season. The upcoming celebration promises to be a grand affair, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the tribal community in Telangana.
