KHAMMAM: The Telangana State government is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to provide 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. In a significant move following a promise made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi before the Assembly elections, a caste survey was conducted and a Bill proposing this percentage of reservation for BCs has been introduced in the Telangana State Assembly.

The government’s decision to hold gram panchayat elections despite delays in getting the Bill assented by both the President and the Governor reflects its commitment towards ensuring that the deadline set by the Telangana High Court is met. The government is adamant about fulfilling its promise to the BC community, despite the hurdles posed by the pending approval of the Bill.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had emphasized on this issue during his election campaign, promising to address the long-standing demand for increased representation for the Backward Classes in local bodies if elected.

The current developments mark a significant step towards ensuring equitable representation for the BC community in Telangana, as the state government continues to strive for progress and development while also promoting social justice. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
