Deccan Alert | Telangana Sees Decrease in Overall Crime Rate for 2025, Yet Concerns Arise over Missing Person Cases

In the Indian state of Telangana, a decline of 2.33% in crime was recorded for the year 2025, as stated in the annual crime report published on January 2nd, 2026. The total number of cases reported dropped from 2,34,158 cases in 2024 to 2,28,695 cases in 2025.

The reduction in rape cases, which saw a significant decline of 13.45%, is being attributed by officials to enhanced policing and victim support mechanisms that have been implemented in the region. The numbers also revealed a decrease in murder, kidnapping, and theft cases.

However, amidst this positive development, there is a growing concern about the increase in missing persons cases in Telangana during 2025. According to official data, the number of missing person cases has seen an over 18% surge, sparking concerns linking it to migration, family disputes, and potential trafficking issues.

Efforts are being made to strengthen investigation units dedicated to missing person cases and implement stricter measures against human trafficking.

The neighboring states of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh have also been urged to collaborate in order to tackle this issue effectively, as it is not uncommon for people from Telangana to migrate or travel between these states. The city of Narayanpet, which has seen a surge in missing person cases, is being considered a priority area for investigation and intervention.

As the authorities work diligently to address this issue, they hope that the positive momentum regarding crime reduction will continue, resulting in a safer environment for all citizens of Telangana.
