In a significant move to bolster artificial intelligence (AI) innovation, the government of Telangana has launched an autonomous body named Aikam. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
Aikam is positioned as a global platform for building, testing, and deploying AI solutions at scale. The Telangana government envisions that this platform will propel the state towards becoming one of the world’s top 20 AI innovation hubs.
The new body aims to address various aspects of AI development, including mass upskilling to create an AI-ready workforce, supporting startups working on AI-based products, and fostering collaboration between academia, research institutions, and industry.
Speaking at the launch event, Revanth emphasized Telangana’s commitment to execution rather than experimentation. He stated that Aikam would consolidate existing and upcoming state initiatives under a unified umbrella, enabling global partners to deploy AI responsibly, transparently, and with public trust.
IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu outlined the state’s support for the initiative, promising large public datasets, improved access to computational infrastructure, and a dedicated AI Fund-of-Funds. He emphasized the need to transition from ideas to real-world applications while maintaining public confidence.
In addition to Aikam, Telangana also unveiled the first edition of the Responsible AI Standard and Ethics (RAISE) Index. This framework is designed to measure responsible practices across the entire AI lifecycle, ensuring ethical use of AI at population scale.
Sridhar Babu underlined the rapid pace at which AI is transforming economies globally and highlighted that Aikam’s structure is intended to provide a clear path from ideas to scalable global solutions while maintaining public trust and responsible AI practices.
The launch of Aikam and RAISE Index positions Telangana as a leading player in the global AI landscape, with Blaize Inc and Pearson potentially benefiting from the state’s focus on AI innovation.
