Vijayawada – The Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh celebrated the colorful harvest festival of Makar Sankranti on Thursday, January 15th, with enthusiasm and vivacity. The rural landscapes in both states donned a festive air as homes were adorned with decorations, kite flying competitions, cockfights, bull fights, and various other sports took place during the second day of the three-day festival.

Villages across both states brimmed with life on Sankranti, regarded as the most significant festival in the region. The tradition-rich celebrations included household decorations featuring fresh harvests of rice and turmeric, along with the practice known as ‘Gobbemma’, where cow dung balls are arranged among Rangoli patterns within homes.

The lively atmosphere of these festivities reflects the communal spirit that envelops the Telugu states during Makar Sankranti, bringing together families and communities to engage in age-old customs while enjoying the vibrant and joyous occasions.
