In a surprising turn of events, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has demanded an apology from Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for allegedly misrepresenting facts regarding a committee on the Godavari-Banakacherla link project proposed by Andhra Pradesh. The dispute arises from conflicting statements made by both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers about the project, with BRS leaders asserting that the issue was indeed discussed during a meeting called by the Union Jal Shakti Ministry.

Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu has also backed this claim, stating that the committee on the Banakacherla project and other related issues was agreed upon during the said meeting. However, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has maintained that no such discussion regarding the Godavari-Banakacherla project took place in the meeting.

This controversy between the two states comes at a time when the Congress party, led by Rahul Gandhi, is gearing up for crucial elections in several states later this year. The Godavari-Banakacherla link project has been a contentious issue between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with both states vying for control over the water resources of the Godavari river.

The BJP, which is currently in power at the center, has maintained a moderate stance on the issue, avoiding direct involvement in the dispute between the two southern states. As the elections draw near, political parties are expected to focus more on local issues and promises to address the concerns of their constituents.
