In a significant move towards strengthening bilateral ties and promoting scientific collaboration, the Government of Singapore and the State Government of Andhra Pradesh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 28, 2025. This agreement focuses on fostering research and development in various domains, with an emphasis on advanced technology and renewable energy.
On the domestic front, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics Nara Lokesh has requested Google to consider establishing a Chip Designing Centre in Visakhapatnam. This move is aimed at boosting technological advancements within the state and potentially contributing to India’s growing tech sector.
The proposed centre would be part of Google’s ongoing efforts to invest in local talent and infrastructure, with the goal of building a robust ecosystem for chip design and manufacturing. This development comes as India seeks to reduce its reliance on imported semiconductors, particularly following global disruptions in supply chains during the pandemic.
