Patna High Court Orders Indian National Congress to Remove AI-Generated Video Featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Late Mother
In a significant legal move, the Patna High Court has directed the Indian National Congress (INC) to take down an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi. The court was reacting to the video uploaded by the Bihar unit of the Congress on social media, showing PM Modi dreaming about his late mother who scolds him over his politics in poll-bound Bihar.
The order came after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed alleging that the video violated the privacy and dignity of the Prime Minister. The court also issued notice to Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC), alongside other government bodies and committees.
The Patna High Court urged intermediaries to stop the circulation of the video in light of recent Supreme Court rulings on the misuse of AI-generated content. The court’s decision has sparked a debate on the boundaries of political discourse and the use of technology in elections.
The Bihar unit of the Congress has defended its actions, stating that the video was intended to critique the Prime Minister’s policies and not to violate his privacy. Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a strict action against the Congress for alleged misuse of technology.
