In a decision aimed at enhancing Bangalore’s urban mobility, the Karnataka government has given its nod to a comprehensive revamp project for the Outer Ring Road (ORR) between KR Puram and Silk Board junction.
The ambitious plan includes the installation of continuous brushed-concrete footpaths that double as cycle lanes on both sides, offering enhanced facilities for cyclists.
While significant portions of the road will be rebuilt using modern construction methods, the majority of the stretch will undergo an upgrade with a standard bituminous concrete layer to ensure smooth and efficient travel. This development is expected to significantly improve the commuting experience for residents in the region, as well as boost connectivity between key areas such as KR Puram and Silk Board junction.
As the IT capital of India, Bangalore has been facing increasing traffic congestion and infrastructure challenges over the past few years. This revamp project represents a concerted effort by the cabinet to address these issues and create a more sustainable and livable city. The implementation of this project is expected to begin shortly, with details regarding timeline and contractors to be announced in due course.
