Kochi – The entire Indian film fraternity, particularly Malayalam cinema, is plunged into profound grief following the sudden demise of veteran actor, screenwriter, director, and producer Sreenivasan at the age of 69.

The irreplaceable icon, celebrated for his unparalleled wit, satirical genius, and heartfelt portrayals, passed away this morning en route to dialysis. He was declared brought dead at Tripunithura Taluk Hospital around 8:30 AM after a sudden deterioration in health.

An Unparalleled Legacy That Shaped Generations:

Sreenivasan’s contributions redefined Malayalam cinema over five decades, with over 225 films as an actor and timeless screenplays for masterpieces like Nadodikkattu, Sandesam, and Varavelpu. His directorial gems, including Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, continue to inspire.

Film Industry United in Grief: Heartfelt Tributes Pour In

Superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty rushed to his residence in Kandanad to pay their last respects, with Mohanlal visibly emotional and comforted by Mammootty. The scene captured the deep personal loss felt across the industry.

Tributes flooded in from across India: Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Nivin Pauly, and many more hailed him as a master satirist and guiding force. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described it as an “irreparable loss to Malayalam cinema and society.”

Thousands of fans gathered for public homage at Ernakulam Town Hall, reflecting the widespread mourning.

Sreenivasan is survived by his wife Vimala and sons Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan, both prominent in the industry, who were seen overcome with emotion.
