In a ruling handed down, the Telangana High Court refused to intervene in the state government’s plan to restructure the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The decision came after a division bench of Justices Moushumi Bhattacharya and Gadi Praveen Kumar dismissed petitions that challenged the delimitation of municipal wards, following the merger of 27 urban local bodies with the GHMC.

The state government had already issued a notification to increase the number of GHMC wards from 150 to 300. The petitioners, who argued that the state government failed to make public the report of the Centre for Good Governance (CGG) regarding ward delimitation, claimed this was a breach of transparency. They also questioned the CGG’s methodology in preparing the report.

However, the court chose not to entertain these concerns, allowing the state government’s plans for GHMC reorganization to proceed as planned. The move is expected to improve municipal services and governance within the Greater Hyderabad area. More updates on this developing story will be provided as they become available.
