Hanumakonda Police Book Nine over Alleged Mass Killing of Stray Dogs

In the Hanumakonda district of Telangana, nine individuals, including village sarpanches from Shayampet and Arepally, have been booked by local authorities for the alleged mass killing of approximately 300 stray dogs using lethal injections. This grim discovery was made during a recent visit by police and veterinary experts to carry out postmortem examinations on buried carcasses.

The complaint was lodged by A Goutham, a representative from the Stray Animal Foundation of India, an NGO based in Karimnagar district. The incident is said to have occurred between January 6 and 8, as stated in the official report.

Officials from the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act are involved in investigating this case, aiming to bring those responsible for this act to justice. Local authorities have yet to release a statement regarding any potential motive behind the alleged killings.
