Telangana Aims for Thalassemia-Free Status by 2035: Health Minister Announces New Daycare Centers

Hyderabad, January 12 (News Reporter) – In a significant stride towards improving public health, Telangana’s Health Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha has declared the state’s ambition to eliminate Thalassemia by the year 2035. The minister made this announcement during his keynote speech at the Asian Thalassemia Conclave held at Kamala Hospital over the weekend, an event organized by the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society.

Emphasizing on collective action to achieve this ambitious goal, the Minister announced the expansion of Telangana’s healthcare network with three new daycare centers slated for Asifabad, Mancherial, and Karimnagar. These facilities are aimed at addressing Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anaemia, and Haemophilia, three blood disorders that affect numerous individuals across the state.

The Minister’s announcement came as a follow-up to successful screening programs implemented in Mahbubnagar and Medchal–Malkajgiri districts, benefiting more than 11 lakh people. These initiatives have evidently made significant strides in addressing these blood disorders, paving the way for further expansion across other regions of Telangana.

The Minister’s vision for a Thalassemia-free Telangana is undoubtedly a testament to the state government’s commitment towards enhancing public health services and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
