The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, and the Lakkundi Heritage Development, has initiated an excavation at the Kote Veerabhadreshwara Temple in Lakkundi, Karnataka. This move comes following the discovery of 470 grams of gold ornaments during the construction of a house in the region.
The archaeologists involved aim to unearth historical artifacts, inscriptions, and potential treasures, which could shed light on Lakkundi’s medieval prosperity and rich heritage. The village, known for its architectural splendor, has been associated with the Hoysalas and Vijayanagara dynasties in the past.
The discovery of gold ornaments during a construction process suggests that there may be more buried treasures or artifacts in the area waiting to be uncovered. The excavation is expected to provide valuable insights into the history and culture of Lakkundi and its surrounding regions.
