In a significant move towards strengthening India’s renewable energy sector, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has granted approval to Websol Energy Systems for establishing a greenfield 4 GW solar cell and 4 GW solar module manufacturing facility at the Multi-Product Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ), Naidupeta, in Tirupati district.

The approval was issued through a Government Order from the state’s Industries & Commerce Department, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Websol and the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) on November 15, 2025.

The project is expected to help Websol execute its large-scale manufacturing strategy in line with India’s renewable energy and domestic manufacturing objectives. The 8 GW facility, scheduled to be set up at the MPSEZ, will contribute significantly to the country’s ambitious target of generating 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

Websol Energy Systems, based in Mumbai, has been actively involved in the design, development, and manufacturing of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules since its inception. This latest approval marks a significant milestone for the company as it expands its operations beyond its home base.

The Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB), an agency of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, has been instrumental in attracting investments and fostering economic growth in the state. The approval granted to Websol is a testament to the board’s commitment to promoting domestic manufacturing and contributing to India’s renewable energy goals.

With this development, India continues its push towards sustainable energy solutions, aiming to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and combat climate change. The 8 GW solar manufacturing facility is expected to create numerous job opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region.
