Deccan Alert | Andhra Pradesh Aims for Aviation Boom with Proposed Aircraft Manufacturing Centre

In a move to bolster India’s aviation manufacturing sector, the Andhra Pradesh government is planning to establish an aircraft manufacturing centre in the undivided Anantapur district. The proposed unit, a collaboration between Adani Aerospace and Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, is expected to focus primarily on small and mid-sized passenger aircraft.

Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat are in competition to secure this strategic project. However, Andhra Pradesh has taken the lead by offering land and essential infrastructure, with positive responses already received from the state government regarding land allocation requests.

The proposed facility, if realized, is anticipated to attract investments worth several thousand crores and generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities. Officials have hinted at providing further clarity on the project next month.

One of the primary reasons for choosing the Anantapur district is the availability of vast tracts of land and its proximity to Bengaluru, which presents a significant advantage. The government has been actively working to develop the region as an aviation manufacturing hub.

Recently, Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation received approvals to manufacture electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in the area. The company plans to invest Rs 1,300 crore to set up a six-seater aircraft manufacturing unit across 500 acres, branded as a ‘Sky Factory’. The project aims to launch air taxi services by 2029.

With additional vacant land available in the region, the government has prepared proposals to attract more aviation sector investments in the Anantapur district.
