Deccan Alert | Telangana Council of Higher Education Plans Comprehensive Revision of Postgraduate Syllabus for 2026-27

In an effort to make postgraduate courses more industry-oriented and address a decline in enrolment over the past five years, the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has announced plans to constitute several sub-committees. These panels will be responsible for reviewing specific subject areas within the PG syllabus.

Officials from TGCHE assert that the current PG syllabus, unrevised for a decade, is in need of an update. To address this issue, the council intends to form around 10 sub-committees, with dedicated panels for industry, life sciences, arts, commerce, and other disciplines. Each sub-committee will assess the existing syllabus, identify gaps, and recommend updates in line with current academic standards and industry expectations.

Senior TGCHE officials emphasized that the revised syllabus is expected to benefit students by providing greater exposure to practical applications, emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary learning. They also highlighted that modern industries increasingly seek job-ready graduates and no longer have the resources to provide extensive training. As a result, up to 15-20% of the curriculum may incorporate industry-recommended components while adhering to University Grants Commission (UGC) and other regulatory guidelines.

The TGCHE official stated that this is not a cosmetic revision but rather a thorough overhaul of the curriculum designed to meet present-day academic and industry demands. Consultations with vice-chancellors of state-run universities and faculty members are already underway as part of the revamp process.
