As many as 22 students fell ill after consuming the midday meal at Venkataapur Primary School in Narayankhed mandal of Sangareddy district. The school has a total strength of 47 students, out of whom 43 attended classes on Thursday.
Soon after eating the midday meal, several students complained of stomach pain and vomiting, following which they became severely unwell one after another. The affected students were immediately shifted to the Narayankhed Area Hospital for treatment.
Parents alleged that the illness occurred because leftover food from a feast held at a villager’s house on Wednesday was allegedly used for the midday meal at the school.
Narayankhed MLA Patlolla Sanjeeva Reddy visited the area hospital and enquired about the health condition of the children. He directed hospital superintendent Ramesh to ensure better medical care and speedy recovery of the students.
Meanwhile, Narayankhed Sub-Collector Umaharathi assured the parents that a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the incident and appropriate action would be taken.
