In anticipation of the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for February 11, 2026, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Mahesh Kumar Goud has expressed confidence in winning a substantial majority of seats. During a strategy meeting with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and All India Congress Committee in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Goud expressed optimism, suggesting that the party anticipates minimal competition in the municipal polls.
The elections will encompass 7 Municipal Corporations and 116 Municipalities, with over 52 lakh voters casting their ballots across nearly 3,000 wards. These elections mark the first significant urban local body (ULB) test since the Congress secured victory in the 2023 Assembly elections.
In an effort to address potential weaknesses within certain municipalities, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has analyzed survey data and designated ministers responsible for resolving any immediate issues identified.
As part of their preparations for the polls, senior leaders, including Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) from constituencies where no elections are being held, will be deployed as PCC Observers to polling areas starting from tomorrow.
The 2026 municipal elections are considered a “semi-final” and a crucial referendum on the two-year rule of the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government. The ruling party’s morale is high following a robust performance in the December 2025 Gram Panchayat elections, where Congress-supported candidates reportedly won approximately 66% of the seats.
