In a significant political development, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan has announced that the United Democratic Front (UDF) is open to accepting the support of Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming assembly elections. The announcement came during Satheesan’s address to media personnel in Kasaragod, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Puthuyuga Yatra of the UDF, which commenced from Kumbla and will conclude in Thiruvananthapuram on March 7.
Satheesan clarified that Jamaat-e-Islami has made it clear that they are not advocating for a theocratic state, and thus the UDF is open to their support. The decision comes as part of the broader political strategy for the upcoming elections in various regions, including Kasaragod.
The 30-day Puthuyuga Yatra, launched by the UDF, is an important event in the political landscape of Kerala. The rally aims to unite various secular and democratic forces under a common banner and mobilize support for the UDF ahead of the state elections.
