Polling for the high-stakes Telangana municipal elections commenced on a steady note today, as over a five million voters began exercising their franchise to elect representatives for 2,981 wards. The elections are witnessing a fierce three-way contest between the ruling Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

The election spans across 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, covering a total of 2,569 wards and 412 divisions respectively. Voting began at 7:00 AM and is scheduled to conclude at 5:00 PM. CM Revanth Reddy casts his vote in ZP High School, kodangal.

As of 11:00 AM, the state recorded a voter turnout of 28.48%, with citizens lining up early to beat the heat. The State Election Commission (SEC) has implemented comprehensive webcasting both inside and outside all polling stations to ensure transparency and monitor any irregularities.

To maintain law and order, the police department has deployed a massive force across the urban pockets, establishing a multi-tier security ring at sensitive polling centers. No untoward incidents have been reported so far.
