Residents in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are bracing for a long spell of intense heat as March kicks off. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures across both states are expected to rise significantly from March through May, with some areas seeing higher-than-normal temperatures already.

The IMD warns that if the current situation persists, conditions will worsen in the coming days. Prakhar Jain, MD of the State Disaster Management Organisation, has stated that the sun’s intensity is likely to increase gradually during this period, leading to more severe heat waves.

In Andhra Pradesh, districts such as Srikakulam, Prakasam, Markapuram, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Annamayya, and Kadapa are expected to see higher temperatures. Heat waves are also likely to persist for several days in Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, and Markapuram districts. The IMD expects temperatures to rise across most districts in Andhra Pradesh, with exceptions in some parts of Srikakulam, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Markapuram, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Annamayya, Kadapa, Chittoor, and Tirupati.

Severe heat waves are anticipated in Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Markapuram, Nellore, Kurnool, and Nandyal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Similarly, Telangana officials forecast rising temperatures across nearly all districts from March through May, urging residents to take necessary precautions against the heat.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak sunlight hours, drink plenty of water, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. The State Disaster Management Organisation has also recommended that vulnerable groups such as the elderly and young children take extra care during this period.
