Deccan Alert | Andhra Pradesh Education and Technology Sector Receives Comprehensive Overhaul as Minister Nara Lokesh Outlines Roadmap in Assembly

In a significant move, Minister for HRD and IT, Nara Lokesh, has presented an extensive roadmap for the education and technology sectors in Andhra Pradesh. The plan encompasses reforms aimed at schools, universities, skill development, and IT investments, as detailed in a speech delivered in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Lokesh unveiled substantial allocations towards various sectors, with school education receiving Rs 32,308.31 crore, higher education allocated Rs 2,566.80 crore, skill development granted Rs 1,231.91 crore, and IT and electronics receiving Rs 536.28 crore. Lokesh emphasized the importance of legislators adopting schools, doubling enrolment, and conducting weekly visits to oversee infrastructure and attendance, positioning education as a shared responsibility.

Criticizing the previous government’s “ill-conceived actions” that contributed to Andhra Pradesh holding the lowest literacy rate in India, Lokesh vowed to elevate the state into the top five within three years. The proposed reforms include transparent teacher transfers, filling 16,000 teacher positions through Mega DSC, automatic promotions, and star ratings for schools.

According to Lokesh, 9,600 primary schools have adopted the “One Class, One Teacher” model, with support from a new Teacher Transfer Act. The Minister’s ambitious roadmap aims to transform Andhra Pradesh’s education and technology sectors, setting the stage for significant improvements in the near future.
