Deccan Alert | Telangana Congress Commits to Boost Women's Representation in Politics

In a move aimed at strengthening women’s participation in governance, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud has announced that if women’s reservation is implemented, as many as 51 women could be elected as Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections.

During a recent event attended by All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba as the chief guest, Goud also stated that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is considering allocating 20 percent of future appointments to women. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to gender equality in politics and governance.

Goud highlighted the Congress government’s focus on women’s welfare, emphasizing that the party has provided ample opportunities for women to contest in both Assembly and Parliamentary elections. He also pointed out the party’s historic legacy of empowering women, having facilitated women holding key constitutional positions such as President, Governor, speaker, and chief minister.

With this renewed commitment towards gender parity, the Congress party continues its efforts to break barriers and create a more inclusive political landscape in Telangana.
