In the lead up to the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the ruling AIADMK has outlined a strategic seat allocation plan that sees the party contesting 134 seats on its own while allocating a collective 100 seats to its alliance partners.

According to political sources, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stands to gain the largest portion of these allotted seats with approximately 65 seats earmarked for their potential candidates. The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), another key regional party, is expected to receive around 30 seats, while smaller parties may be allocated about five seats each.

These seat-sharing calculations are primarily based on the vote share trends observed during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, indicating a potential shift in alliances for the upcoming state elections. The AIADMK, under the leadership of Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has been actively negotiating with various parties to form an effective alliance that could secure significant representation in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

It is worth noting that the Tamil Maanila Congress and the DMK have not yet been mentioned as part of this alliance, leaving their potential roles uncertain at this stage. The AIADMK’s decision to consider the Secular Democratic Patriots’ Front (SDPI) as one of its alliance partners, with around five seats potentially being allocated to them, suggests a broader inclusivity in the party’s alliances for the upcoming elections.

As the political landscape in Tamil Nadu continues to evolve, the AIADMK’s seat allocation strategy indicates a strong focus on consolidating support from key regional parties in an effort to secure another term in power. The final shape of alliances and their impact on the election outcome will only become clear as the campaigning gathers momentum in the coming weeks.
