Thiruvananthapuram – The State Congress Core Committee, the highest decision-making body of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), has analyzed the results of the recent local body elections and identified two significant factors that contributed to the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) victory over the Left Democratic Front (LDF) after more than a decade.
The polarization of Hindu votes in the Travancore region, which was strengthened by the Sabarimala gold panel theft case, and the substantial polarization of Muslim minority votes in Malabar, played crucial roles in the UDF’s success, according to party leaders.
This assessment suggests that strong anti-incumbency against the state government also played a part in the UDF’s victories. The results indicate a shift in voter preferences, with the UDF managing to regain lost ground in the state.
