Andhra Pradesh, the southern Indian state, has announced the creation of two new districts – Polavaram and Markapuram – effective from December 31st, 2025. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government, which leads the regional administration, aims to enhance governance efficiency, service delivery, and address regional development needs more effectively with this administrative restructuring.
The newly formed Polavaram district is strategically positioned in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district’s Ramachodavaram region. This move is intended to aid in the rehabilitation and development of villages impacted by the extensive Polavaram irrigation project, which has been a significant focus for the state government in recent years.
On the other hand, Markapuram district has been carved out from the Prakasam district’s Markapuram and Kanigiri revenue divisions. The creation of this new administrative entity is expected to bolster development efforts and improve public services within its jurisdiction.
The expansion of Andhra Pradesh’s 26 existing districts marks another step in the state’s ongoing efforts to modernize governance and foster sustainable regional growth.
