In the latest development, two journalists from the Telugu television news channel NTV were arrested by the Telangana Police on Wednesday, January 14. The reporters, Donthu Ramesh and Sudheer, were taken into custody in connection with a case pertaining to an alleged defamatory story about a woman IAS officer.
The arrests followed a complaint from Jayesh Ranjan, the Secretary of the Telangana Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officers’ Association. Mr. Ranjan claimed that the news item published by NTV was “completely false, fabricated and baseless.”
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been probing the case based on Mr. Ranjan’s complaint. The arrested journalists were granted bail on Thursday, January 15, marking a turn in the ongoing investigation.
