In the heart of India’s southeast, the government of Andhra Pradesh has initiated preparations for the population census to be conducted within its borders, slated for March 1, 2027. This announcement follows a nationwide schedule revealed by the Union Home Ministry earlier this year.
The Chief Secretary in the general administration department of Andhra Pradesh, S Rawat, issued a government order on Thursday to republish the notification issued by the Central Government and published in the Gazette of India. This action aims to ensure a smooth and timely census process within the state.
It is worth noting that the last population census conducted in Andhra Pradesh was part of the larger Census of India, which took place in 2011. Since then, the state has witnessed significant demographic changes, making an accurate count essential for planning and resource allocation.
The Central Government’s decision to conduct a nationwide census in 2027 is a crucial step towards obtaining current, comprehensive data on India’s population distribution. The Census of India is mandated by Article 243P of the Constitution of India, which requires the total population to be counted every ten years.
In related news, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have also started making preparations for their respective census exercises. These states are governed under the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act and are expected to follow similar procedures as Andhra Pradesh.
Saurabh Jassal, an official from the Urban Development Department in charge of census-related matters, stated, “Preparations are underway at all levels for a successful census. The focus is on ensuring accurate data collection and efficient management of resources.”
