In a recent development, the Human Rights Forum (HRF) has called upon the Andhra Pradesh government to reconsider and revoke all clearances granted for the 900 MW Open Loop Pumped Storage Hydro Power Project (PSP) proposed by Adani Green Energy Limited at Raiwada in Anakapalli district and Vepada in Vizianagaram district.
The HRF’s appeal comes after a fact-finding visit to the affected areas, during which they expressed concerns about the potential impact of the project on the livelihoods of local tribal residents and the regional ecology. These concerns extend beyond what was previously mentioned in the summary of the project.
It is important to note that the TDP-led government increased the approved capacity of PSP projects from 1,600 MW to 1,800 MW on June 30 this year. This expansion has not been included in previous summaries of the project.
The Human Rights Forum’s apprehensions revolve around the potential disruption of the livelihoods of the tribal residents, who rely heavily on the local environment for their sustenance. They fear that the project could lead to ecological damage beyond what is currently anticipated.
