Chennai, January 4 – Parties allied with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have expressed support for the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to implement the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS). The implementation of TAPS is seen as a significant move addressing the long-standing demands of government employees and teachers, thereby restoring dignity in retirement.

Leaders from various political parties aligned with the DMK have lauded the announcement by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin about the implementation of TAPS. This decision, they claim, is a testament to the state’s resolve to honor electoral assurances and ensure social security for its citizens.

The implementation of TAPS marks the culmination of an approximately two-decade long struggle, according to these leaders. The scheme promises to provide a monthly pension of Rs. 1,500 for all government employees retiring after November 26, 2023, and Rs. 750 for teachers who have retired or will retire before that date.

The move is expected to benefit over two million government employees and teachers in Tamil Nadu. The parties aligned with the DMK believe that this reform will not only alleviate the financial burden of the retirement years but also foster a sense of security among the state’s workforce.

The decision to implement TAPS is significant as it reflects the state government’s commitment towards its citizens, particularly those who have dedicated their careers to serving the state. As the implementation process commences, more details are expected to be revealed in due course.
