Bengaluru – The Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has announced the export of three metric tonnes (MTs) of Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Indi Lime from Vijayapura district in Karnataka to Oman on December 19, 2025. This marks the entry of this unique citrus fruit into another global market, following its initial export to Dubai on August 24, 2025.

The initial shipment to Dubai received an encouraging response, leading to subsequent exports of nearly 12 MTs to the UAE. The latest export to Oman is part of ongoing efforts by APEDA and the Indian government to diversify India’s agricultural export markets.

Indi Lime, a variety of lime native to Karnataka, was granted GI tag in January 2023, recognizing its unique taste, aroma, and health benefits. The fruit is known for its high Vitamin C content and has been gaining popularity both domestically and internationally.

The planned export of 350 kg of GI-tagged Indi Lime to the United Kingdom is another step in this market diversification strategy. APEDA aims to expand the reach of Indian agricultural products, leveraging their unique qualities and the growing demand for high-quality produce worldwide.

In a related development, during the recently concluded Winter Session, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured ₹100 crore in support to the Karnataka State Lime Development Board. This development underscores India’s commitment to boosting its agricultural exports and capitalizing on its rich biodiversity.
