In a tragic turn of events, a 20-year-old pregnant woman named Manya Patil was allegedly killed by her father in Hubballi, Karnataka, on Sunday evening. The family’s strong opposition to Manya’s marriage to a man from another caste appears to have been the catalyst for this heinous act.

A seven-month pregnant woman, Manya, and her unborn child were killed in a brutal attack at Inam Veerapura village under Hubballi Rural police limits.

According to Police, Manya’s father, Prakashgouda Patil, along with his relatives, allegedly assaulted her at her husband’s residence using lethal weapons such as an axe and an iron sprinkler pipe.

The attack occurred around 6.30 pm, and despite medical treatment, Manya succumbed to her injuries about three hours later. Her father-in-law and mother-in-law were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment.

Manya had married Vivekananda, a man from the Madar caste and from the same village, earlier this year after the two met during their college days and registered their marriage in Hubballi. The marriage had faced strong opposition from Manya’s family from the beginning, prompting police intervention and warnings against harassment.

Due to continued threats, the couple had moved to Haveri but returned to their native village on December 8, hoping the pregnancy would help ease tensions. On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly first attacked Vivekananda and his father in a field before entering the house and assaulting Manya and her in-laws, despite earlier assurances to the police that there would be no interference.
