In a significant move towards food security, the Telangana government announced the distribution of 5 lakh new ration cards across all districts starting today. The Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, will inaugurate the distribution at a public event in Tirumalagiri, Suryapet district, marking the state’s first large-scale ration card issuance in nearly a decade.
These next-generation cards prioritize applicants who are permanent Telangana residents and have an annual income below ₹1.5 Lakh (rural) or ₹2 Lakh (urban). According to the state government, approximately 11.30 lakh economically vulnerable citizens will benefit from the subsidized essentials provided through this initiative.
The new ration cards aim to strengthen food security and reduce the burden of essential item costs for those most in need. Knight Frank Names LB Nagar & Bandlaguda have been identified as key areas where a significant number of these cards will be distributed. This move is expected to provide relief to a large portion of Telangana’s population and contribute to a more equitable distribution of resources within the state.
