In a move to maintain public health and safety, the Telangana Drug Control Administration (DCA) has issued a statewide advisory reiterating that Mephentermine Sulphate and anabolic steroids are prescription-only drugs. The DCA has warned wholesale and retail medical shops against indiscriminate sales of these controlled substances, threatening license cancellation and prosecution under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The advisory comes in response to concerns over the unauthorized sale of prescription drugs such as Mephentermine and Atracurium Besylate injections. Misuse of Mephentermine can dangerously elevate blood pressure, cause irregular heartbeat, weaken heart muscles, and trigger heart attacks.

Shahnawaz Qasim, Director General of the Telangana Drug Control Administration, emphasized the importance of adhering to Schedule H of the Drugs Rules, which governs the sale and distribution of prescription-only medicines. The advisory serves as a reminder to medical shops across the state to exercise caution when dispensing these controlled substances and ensure compliance with the law.

The DCA’s efforts aim to protect the public from potential health risks associated with the misuse of prescription drugs, ensuring that they are only accessed by those who have been prescribed them by a qualified medical professional. The advisory also serves as a deterrent for any unauthorized sale or distribution of these substances.

The Telangana Drug Control Administration’s commitment to public health and safety is evident in their ongoing efforts to regulate the sale and distribution of prescription drugs, ensuring that they are accessible only through proper channels. By taking swift action against violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, the DCA is working to maintain the integrity of the pharmaceutical industry and protect the well-being of the citizens of Telangana.
