Hyderabad, July 18 – In a significant legal development, the Telangana High Court on Thursday quashed the criminal case filed against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The case, which originated from an FIR registered at Gachibowli police station in 2016, was based on allegations that Revanth Reddy, along with his brother Kondal Reddy and associate E Lakshmaiah, attempted to forcibly enter land belonging to the Razole Constituency SC Mutually Aided Cooperative Housing Society.
The dispute over the 31 acres of land in Survey No. 127 of Gopanpally village had led to the registration of the FIR against Revanth Reddy and his associates. The court’s decision comes after the chief minister and his brother were accused of verbally abusing the society president with caste-based language during the dispute.
The court’s ruling has garnered mixed reactions, with some lauding the decision as a justification of due process, while others have expressed concern over the perceived leniency towards high-profile individuals in the justice system.
Moushumi Bhattacharya, a legal analyst based in Hyderabad, stated, “The High Court’s decision is based on the principles of law and due process. However, it is crucial to remember that such cases involve sensitive issues related to caste and land disputes, which can have far-reaching implications for society.”
The case, initially filed in 2016, has been a subject of public scrutiny due to the high-profile individuals involved. As the story unfolds, stakeholders are urging for continued vigilance and adherence to the principles of justice and fairness in all proceedings related to this matter.
