The Indian Express reported that IT Minister Sridhar Babu Duddila emphasized the importance of eco-friendly construction practices in urban development during a national conference on “Next-Generation High-Rise Buildings” held in Hyderabad.

In his address, Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu highlighted the significant contributions of the sector to the state economy, with a growth rate of 11.97% and an impressive contribution of ₹80,000 crore. However, he also underscored the need for a shift from traditional Reinforced Concrete Cement (RCC) structures to composite and steel alternatives to promote sustainability in construction.

The push for eco-friendly practices is part of Telangana’s broader strategy to combat climate change and urban pollution, as well as to contribute to the state’s growth and economy. This shift aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development.

The conference, organized by various industry bodies, aimed to discuss innovative solutions for high-rise buildings that are not only economically viable but also environmentally friendly. The event saw the participation of architects, engineers, policymakers, and urban planners from across India.

In 2024, the state government launched a massive green initiative called ‘Telangana Green Grid’ to create a sustainable energy infrastructure for its cities. This initiative includes the deployment of renewable energy sources, energy-efficient buildings, and smart grids.

As the conference concludes, stakeholders are hopeful that the discussion will lead to concrete action and innovative solutions in high-rise building construction. The focus on sustainability in urban development is expected to drive significant changes in the real estate sector in Telangana and India at large.
