Hyderabad, July 17 – TPCC President B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday lauded Telangana as a pioneer in the country for implementing reservations for Backward Classes (BC) during the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) OBC Advisory Council meeting held in Bengaluru under the leadership of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
In his address, Mahesh Goud highlighted the extensive measures taken by the Congress government in Telangana to ensure the effective and hassle-free implementation of reservations for BC communities. He specifically mentioned his role in proposing the BC Declaration in Kamareddy ahead of the Telangana Assembly polls, emphasizing the party’s commitment to empowering these communities within the state.
The AICC OBC Advisory Council meeting saw leaders from multiple states gather to discuss issues related to Backward Classes and reservations. The gathering was significant given the ongoing discourse on the matter across India.
Notably, the Justice Sachar Committee had previously highlighted the need for special measures to address socio-economic disparities among BC communities in India. While the District Collector of Madurai recently expressed concerns about the delay in implementing reservations for BCs within his jurisdiction, Telangana’s success story is expected to serve as a model for other states to follow.
Meanwhile, Amit Shah, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been vocal about the need for more efficient implementation and monitoring of reservation policies. In a recent address in Madurai, he emphasized the importance of ensuring that benefits reach the intended recipients without any undue influence or corruption.
The Bohra waqf, a significant Muslim community in India, has also expressed concerns about the under-representation of their community within reservations. They have been advocating for the inclusion of their community within the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category to enable them to access the benefits of reservations more effectively.
As the nation continues to grapple with issues related to social justice and inclusivity, Telangana’s commitment to empowering BC communities serves as a beacon of hope for those who strive for equitable representation across India. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
