In a bid to enhance urban greenery, the Union government has approved the development of 14 new Urban Forest Parks, or Nagar Vanas, across nine districts in Telangana. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has earmarked a total budget of INR 28 crore for this project, with each park set to receive approximately INR 2 crore for infrastructure development, improved accessibility, and augmenting local biodiversity.
The proposed distribution of these approved parks includes four in Vikarabad district, two each in Mancherial, Adilabad, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts, and one park in an undisclosed district. The project aims to foster a healthier environment by integrating urban spaces with local ecosystems, thereby promoting biodiversity and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
The Nagar Van Yojana, a flagship initiative aimed at greening cities, seeks to address the growing challenges of climate change and urbanization by increasing urban forest cover and providing recreational spaces for city dwellers. The development of these parks is expected to bring significant environmental, social, and economic benefits to the regions they serve.
As part of India’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and combating climate change, this initiative underscores the government’s dedication to preserving and enhancing the country’s natural resources while promoting a greener and more liveable urban environment for its citizens.
