Deccan Alert | West Asia Crisis: Over 350 Distress Calls Flood Tamil Nadu Govt as Gulf Flights Remain Suspended

In the wake of escalating conflicts and suspended flights in West Asia, the Tamil Nadu government has been inundated with over 350 distress calls since the beginning of this week. The majority of these calls originated from Gulf nations such as Qatar, Kuwait, and Abu Dhabi, with more than 100 calls received by Sunday evening.

According to officials, many individuals stranded in these countries are growing increasingly anxious due to the tense situation and lack of accessible flights back to Chennai. The Department for Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils has reported that these distressed individuals have been enquiring about the possibility of arranging special flights for their safe return to Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, a total of 251 calls were made by family members of those working in the Gulf seeking information and assistance. Commissioner for Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils M Vallalar confirmed that officials are currently providing counseling and verified information to those affected by this crisis.

For individuals wishing to reach out to the department, the following contact numbers have been made available: +91 80 6900 9900 (missed calls) and +91 80 6900 9901 (direct calls). The Tamil Nadu government continues to respond to these distress calls as the situation in West Asia remains volatile.
